Mandy has enjoyed working as a pediatric nurse for several years, and adores caring for children. It’s safe to say that Mandy knows her way around the hospital, but is keenly aware of her differing roles as both a nurse and a doula and the unique importance behind each. She loves that with doula work, the focus is solely on making sure her clients and their partners have the most positive experience both emotionally and psychologically. Coming from a family of eight kids, Mandy learned patience and responsibility from a young age, and supporting growing families comes natural to her. She lives in Cleveland Heights with her husband Jeff and daughter Ruby, and loves traveling, cooking vegetarian dishes, and hanging with her big, crazy family.

What do you enjoy most about birth and postpartum doula work?
Ever since being present for my sisters’ labor and deliveries, I’ve been fascinated by the miracle of birth. I recognize how vital it is to have someone supporting the laboring mom, and after my own birth, I found this to be so true first hand. My birth experience with my daughter was another pivotal moment that convinced me to be a doula. I am excited and honored to be supporting moms during the most important day of their lives. While the medical team is focused on what they need to do, doulas have a very unique role. A doula can positively affect how the mom views her experience, and that mom will carry the memory of that day and that moment with her always.
What’s something unique about you?
I’m a pediatric nurse at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, and I absolutely love working with kids! When I first became a nurse, I worked at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus Ohio for 2 years, then became a travel nurse with my best friend. It was such a fun experience! I drove cross country with my husband, and got to explore national parks. During this experience, we lived in Berkeley, Huntington Beach, San Diego, and Chicago. I love to travel, and this was a great opportunity to see the country!
Tell us about your family…
I married my high school sweet heart in 2010, and we welcomed our first baby girl in May 2016. I’m the 7th of 8 kids, and almost everyone has their own family with children now (16 grandchildren for my parents so far!). Family parties are a lot of fun and a little crazy! All my siblings and their children are all either vegetarian or vegan, which is a huge part of our lives. We all love to cook and devise new creations in the kitchen, swap recipes, talk about nutrition, and visit farm sanctuaries. Family is very important to me, and even though I have siblings in many different places (a sister and her family in Columbus, a brother in CA, a sister and her family in NJ, and a brother and his family in PA), we are all very close and communicate via a daily family text. Being from Cleveland, my family LOVES everything Cleveland, so it is a HUGE part of who we are! We root hard for every CLE team, but especially the Tribe – baseball is my family’s favorite sport to watch! 🙂
Favorite CLE restaurant?
My favorite restaurant is a Cleveland staple, Tommy’s on Coventry! Any time I have an out-of-town visitor, Tommy’s is a must. My husband and I even had Tommy cater our wedding rehearsal dinner. Tommy and his restaurant are the best! A close runner-up is Aladdin’s – I could eat their hummus every day.
What are you currently watching on TV?
This Is Us and Bob’s Burgers! As soon as I’m done watching This Is Us, and inevitably finish a box of tissues, I need to laugh along with Bob’s Burgers… they balance each other out. And I’ll always be a huge The Office fan.
