What’s your best parenting tip?
The major takeaway from my years learning about families and childhood development is that babies and children legitimately thrive on love. Just by smiling at your baby and holding them close, you are setting them up for success: cognitively, emotionally, physically, socially, and so much more. Luckily, this comes naturally to most parents. Just by showing your baby that you love them, you have already mastered a HUGE aspect of being an awesome parent! How cool is that??
Where’s your hometown?
I was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina. I spent five years in New Orleans. Four years obtaining my undergraduate degree and a fifth year working in the field. I moved to Ohio to obtain my master’s degree in social work. My dad is from Akron, so I have a large family base here and have really enjoyed getting to know them better.
What’s your favorite thing to do in CLE?
I love trying new restaurants, finding new parks to explore, and hanging out with friends all over the city. I am one of the few who actually loves the winter here and gets excited for snow storms. I love sledding and just staying indoors and watching the snow fall! Full disclosure: I sort of turn into a grandmother in the winter, so it is not uncommon to find me knitting, finishing a puzzle, and doing a good foot soak in the cold months.
What’s your favorite dish to cook for your postpartum clients?
I know how hard it is for busy families to meal plan, grocery shop, meal prep, and more, so I think keeping it simple is key! I like to cook a delicious big pot of soup, curry, chili, etc. It’s hard to mess up, easy to reheat, super healthy, and can easily be served in whatever portion you are hungry for. In particular, I make a good Indian curry, black bean soup, and veggie chili. I am a vegetarian and I LOVE food and cooking so I have tons of veggie recipes up my sleeve!
What are your hobbies?
I like trying out new creative activities like knitting or needlepointing. I love puzzles, documentaries, and using and creating my own body products. I love eating, cooking, and going to new restaurants. I like to be outdoors and I love a good road trip!
