Get to Know Clare

What do you enjoy most about birth and postpartum doula work?

I really enjoy empowering women.  Usually, we are not tuned into what we are capable of.  Birth and postpartum are pivotal times that are critical for both the mother and child.  I regard these important stages as opportunities to utilize my personal strengths for the benefit of helping my clients.  Supporting a woman through these stages helps to set her on the right track as a mother while still preserving her sense of self.

What’s your best parenting tip?

Keep your cool.  Kids, even newborns feed off of your energy.  They can sense when you are nervous or anxious and will respond in that mode.  But if they sense you are calm and in control, that will be how they operate.

What’s your favorite thing to do in CLE?

My family and I love to scope out all of the great activities in Cleveland.  Between the library and the Metroparks, we often have to choose between multiple events.  We especially like to seek out free events because those always end up being the most enjoyable.  Summers in Cleveland are the best, with endless possibilities of activities and of course the beach!

Tell us about your family…

I come from a family of 6, five girls, one boy.  There were tense times growing up but having built-in best friends is priceless.  I have been married to Adam for 7 years and we have a four year old son Solomon and two year old daughter Adeline.  Coming from such a large family means my kids have tons of aunts, uncles and cousins.  They are already close with their cousins.  Watching their friendships blossom is so fun to watch.

Who is a hero of yours?

My Mom, Faith.  She is the epitome of kindness.  She raised us kids mostly on her own so she always had to work hard.  She never complained and always had time for others.  To this day, anyone who knows her, feels grateful to have her in their life.,  She has taught me to be hardworking, caring, humble and independent, all while keeping family first.
