Julie is a joyful and accomplished woman who is passionate about doula work. She built a successful career for herself in finance and banking, but her heart has always been drawn toward working with families and children. She first focused on crediting herself as a childbirth educator, and then she moved onto training as a birth and postpartum doula. She loves being a resource and a support for her clients during such a transformative time in their life.

What do you enjoy most about birth and postpartum doula work?
One of the best aspects of this work is the honor of supporting families during a life changing journey. Parenthood is transformative; it is a privilege to be even a small part of serving them along the way. Also, I love meeting and getting to know new people – I am the definition of a people-person! Everyone has a story to tell and something we can learn from their unique life experiences and perspectives.
What’s your favorite thing to do in CLE?
It’s a challenge to choose a favorite thing to do in CLE since there are so many amazing things happening in this city right now. I love taking spontaneous trips to local festivals and parks with my daughter. Whether hiking in the Metroparks or people-watching at the Cleveland Flea, I can’t get enough of discovering what’s new and great in our city. And all of these adventures allow me to pause and breathe in moments of joy with my child. As a doula, I strive to support parents on their quest of finding their own moments of joy with their family.
It’s incredible what we can learn when we open ourselves up to new experiences and are present in every moment. Spontaneous adventures such as these require us to be willing to laugh a lot at ourselves and embrace the craziness that surrounds us. These are valuable traits to adopt as a parent.
Tell us about your family…
Being the eldest of five children, I learned responsibility early in life. That became even truer after my dad died when I was only 17 years old. My family is important to me, and they bring me so much joy. Although two of my siblings have moved away, the rest of my family still lives very close to each and remain highly involved in each other’s lives. I especially appreciate that as I was a single mother to my sweet daughter Hannah for several years before meeting my fiance and his two wonderful children.
Caring for my siblings and having my daughter have both contributed to my love for pregnancy and parenthood, as I have been involved in so many birth stories, first in my family, and now, for others as a doula.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy dancing, hiking, hitting up a variety of fun CLE events, spending time with family and friends, volunteering for church and community events, watching The Voice, reading, traveling and learning more about birth work and parenthood.
What’s your favorite dish to cook for your postpartum clients?
My specialty dish is Lemon Pepper Chicken. I always get rave reviews!
